Plant of the Week: Anthurium

Plant of the Week: Anthurium

Transport yourself to the Caribbean without leaving your front room with these exotic beauties, prized by flower arrangers for their glossy leaves and luxurious, waxy blooms. Anthuriums hail from the lush rainforests of central and South America; they’re also known as Flamingo flowers for the way the elegant, brightly-coloured spathes are held above the leaves on long, wiry stems.

They’re quite happy on a warm, sunny windowsill, but keep them away from radiators. Mist the plant regularly or stand it on a saucer of pebbles topped up with water to keep humidity high, and your reward will be dozens of those long-lasting and lovely blooms all summer long.
